Browse, select and add plants
Having drawn your garden plan using the plan window, you can switch to
the plant encyclopedia to browse through the plants that you can add
to your garden.
From here you can retrieve information about any plants. Choose plants
based on certain criteria, and look at potential diseases that each
plant might suffer from.
The list of plants is ordered by the National or Latin plant name.
You can switch between Latin and National names by clicking on the
Latin/Common button. Selecting a species from the list, by clicking
on it, results in all of the information being updated with
that plant's details. Having selected a species you can scroll
through the list using the up and down cursor keys or the Page Up and
Page Down Keys.
The information about each plant contains the following data fields:
- Plant name - National and Latin classifications.
- The appearance.
- A birds-eye view of the plant.
- A silhouette view of the plant.
- The type of plant - deciduous/coniferous tree, bush, hedge, herb, grass, fern, or climber.
- Light, moisture and temperature requirements.
- Height, width and life expectancy information.
- Possible plant usages, e.g. medical.
- The periods of flowering and the bearing of leaves.
- The color of flowers and leaves over the months.
It is possible to perform a search for a plant using the editable
field directly above the plant list.
In this version you can type a part of the word in the Search line and 3D Garden Composer displays the corresponding items on the list.
Such searches can be carried out using the common or latin names of plant, both through the plant lists and through user notes.
Appearing directly beneath the plant picture are buttons which allow
you to view additional pictures of the currently selected plant, if
they exist.
Note that there are alternative national or common names these
are shown in brackets alongside the primary name.
Clicking on the Select button allows you to place the currently
selected plant in your garden plan.
Clicking on the Filter button shows the Plant Filter dialog, which
will allow you to look for plants with certain characteristics. Having
formed the skeleton to your garden plan, this is likely to be the
first operation that you perform in order to select plants to place
in it.
